KPV (Lysine-Proline-Valine)
KPV (lysine-proline-valine) is a C-terminal tripeptide fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) studied for its anti-inflammatory activity in skin and gut-tissue models. The KPV sequence retains the anti-inflammatory action of the parent hormone without its pigmentary (melanocyte-stimulating) effect, acting intracellularly to downregulate pro-inflammatory NF-kB signalling and reduce cytokine release. In topical and localized research, KPV is investigated for wound healing, skin inflammation, and barrier-related endpoints rather than collagen synthesis, which distinguishes it from carrier peptides like GHK-Cu. As a small tripeptide it is a candidate for topical delivery, though, as with all topical peptides, penetration through the stratum corneum (~500 Da cutoff) governs the delivered dose.
